Renovating drinking water pipes

Renovating drinking water pipes without epoxy resin with the original

Tap water enjoys an excellent reputation here in Switzerland, and rightly so. What is delivered by Swiss waterworks is of the highest quality and can be consumed without hesitation. It is important to preserve this quality over the last few metres, that is, inside the building itself. Yet the pipes hidden in the masonry are not immune to aging. Fear not, we can rehabilitate old drinking water pipes — from the inside, using our unique, global ANROSAN solution. The cement coating that we use for this is particularly sustainable.

The problem with drinking water pipes

As a property owner, it is important to take action when your drinking water pipes get old. Discoloured water, a fall in water pressure or sudden changes in temperature are all signs that your pipes are getting old. If this is the case, we can rescue your old drinking water pipes.

If your pipes are made of galvanised steel, you may notice rust-coloured water or a drop in water pressure which are signs that your pipes are at the point where they need to be renovated. If they are left untreated, corrosion can become so severe that it causes pipe leaks and water damage.

During renovations, it is common to come across pipe sections from earlier wet cells still connected to the freshwater network, hidden in the masonry. These sections are referred to as dead leads or stubs. If the flow in these pipelines is restricted, there can be a build-up of stagnant water, which can become a breeding ground for harmful germs. According to SVGW guideline W3d, such sections must be completely separated from the installation.

Analysis of drinking water pipes

The drinking water network is very complex. As such, an onsite expert should examine the entire drinking water installations in order to precisely assess the condition of the piping system.

It is definitely worthwhile to get a status analysis performed for buildings that were constructed 25 to 30 years ago. Our ANROSAN experts examine the drinking water installations onsite, determining which materials were used and what condition they are in. If we determine that the drinking water pipes need to be renovated and it is feasible, we will provide you with a binding quote for this using ANROSAN, based on our status analysis.

Price for the ANROSAN analysis: CHF 1690 or CHF 2190 for mixed installations.

With ANROSAN, we can provide you with a sustainable internal pipe renovation for drinking water pipes in residential buildings. We use a unique cement coating that meets Swiss food packaging legal requirements.

Renovating the insides of pipes using ANROSAN prevents floors or walls from having to be torn open. As such, regular use of a building can continue throughout the entire renovation process. Provisional measures are implemented in order to ensure that the water supply can be used. The costs for the renovation of the drinking water pipes are significantly lower than those for replacing the entire installation. ANROSAN protects existing drinking water pipes from corrosion and leaks – doing so gently, sustainably and without the need for epoxy resin. As the coating material consists of purely mineral components, it is particularly clean and sustainable. And since cement coatings have been used in the public water network for around 100 years, they have been proven to work.

  • Rehabilitating water pipes is much cheaper than replacing a building’s water installations.
  • In addition to sustainability and environmental compatibility, ANROSAN meets the ultimate standard, hands-down: the same drinking water quality that comes direct from Swiss waterworks.
  • Cement, quartz sand and water form the basis of the coating material. These materials do not contain any additives, nor do they form a breeding ground for contaminating microbes.
  • Cement mortar coatings have proven themselves for decades, lining the pipes in Switzerland’s public drinking water networks.
  • ANROSAN’s coating material is suitable for application areas up to 200°C. As a result, it is possible to perform a thermo-active disinfection at any point, providing effective protection against legionella.
  • ANROSAN’s coating material and applications have been adapted to meet the conditions and requirements of Swiss food packaging provisions following several years of research and development work.
  • The Naef GROUP called on its more than 30 years of experience in water pipe renovation to develop ANROSAN.
  • The Naef GROUP retains control over all ANROSAN processes – from production to technical application.

Compliance and Certification

ANROSAN is the first and, so far, only DIN-certified process for the renovation of drinking water pipes in buildings. In the ANROSAN declaration of conformity, Näf Tech Ltd also provides Swiss authorities with detailed information on how the system meets current testing requirements, including the legal requirements covering hygiene. ANROSAN therefore creates the best conditions for maintaining a building’s drinking water quality.

Certified and food packaging compliant

A certification programme has been devised in collaboration with accredited certification company DIN CERTCO. It is based on the Näf Tech Ltd specialist company and the ANROSAN renovation process criteria for professional renovations (although it does not cover aspects of hygiene). ANROSAN passed all tests successfully. According to the Swiss Foodstuffs Act, ANROSAN is deemed appropriate for food packaging purposes.

DIN register number: FB1R003

Declaration of Conformity ANROSAN / Näf Tech AG Näf Tech AG has successfully passed the various legal tests required by the Swiss authorities regarding the applicable legal requirements for internal pipe renovations involving ANROSAN.
