The problem with drinking water pipes
If your pipes are made of galvanised steel, you may notice rust-coloured water or a drop in water pressure which are signs that your pipes are at the point where they need to be renovated. If they are left untreated, corrosion can become so severe that it causes pipe leaks and water damage.
During renovations, it is common to come across pipe sections from earlier wet cells still connected to the freshwater network, hidden in the masonry. These sections are referred to as dead leads or stubs. If the flow in these pipelines is restricted, there can be a build-up of stagnant water, which can become a breeding ground for harmful germs. According to SVGW guideline W3d, such sections must be completely separated from the installation.
Analysis of drinking water pipes
It is definitely worthwhile to get a status analysis performed for buildings that were constructed 25 to 30 years ago. Our ANROSAN experts examine the drinking water installations onsite, determining which materials were used and what condition they are in. If we determine that the drinking water pipes need to be renovated and it is feasible, we will provide you with a binding quote for this using ANROSAN, based on our status analysis.
Price for the ANROSAN analysis: CHF 1290 or CHF 1790 for mixed installations.
Renovating drinking water pipes without epoxy resin
Renovating the insides of pipes using ANROSAN prevents floors or walls from having to be torn open. As such, regular use of a building can continue throughout the entire renovation process. Provisional measures are implemented in order to ensure that the water supply can be used. The costs for the renovation of the drinking water pipes are significantly lower than those for replacing the entire installation. ANROSAN protects existing drinking water pipes from corrosion and leaks – doing so gently, sustainably and without the need for epoxy resin. As the coating material consists of purely mineral components, it is particularly clean and sustainable. And since cement coatings have been used in the public water network for around 100 years, they have been proven to work.
- Rehabilitating water pipes is much cheaper than replacing a building’s water installations.
- In addition to sustainability and environmental compatibility, ANROSAN meets the ultimate standard, hands-down: the same drinking water quality that comes direct from Swiss waterworks.
- Cement, quartz sand and water form the basis of the coating material. These materials do not contain any additives, nor do they form a breeding ground for contaminating microbes.
- Cement mortar coatings have proven themselves for decades, lining the pipes in Switzerland’s public drinking water networks.
- ANROSAN’s coating material is suitable for application areas up to 200°C. As a result, it is possible to perform a thermo-active disinfection at any point, providing effective protection against legionella.
- ANROSAN’s coating material and applications have been adapted to meet the conditions and requirements of Swiss food packaging provisions following several years of research and development work.
- The Naef GROUP called on its more than 30 years of experience in water pipe renovation to develop ANROSAN.
- The Naef GROUP retains control over all ANROSAN processes – from production to technical application.

DIN Certco, specialist company
Compliance and Certificationv
Certified and food packaging compliant
A certification programme has been devised in collaboration with accredited certification company DIN CERTCO. It is based on the Näf Tech Ltd specialist company and the ANROSAN renovation process criteria for professional renovations (although it does not cover aspects of hygiene). ANROSAN passed all tests successfully. According to the Swiss Foodstuffs Act, ANROSAN is deemed appropriate for food packaging purposes.
DIN register-number: FB1R003
Declaration of Conformity ANROSAN / Näf Tech AGNäf Tech AG has successfully passed the various legal tests required by the Swiss authorities regarding the applicable legal requirements for internal pipe renovations involving ANROSAN.

The pipe renovation in our entire building was carried out cleanly, efficiently and neatly. We are very satisfied with the information provided and the work performed.

Martin C. Huber
After hearing the positive experiences of two colleagues, we had our 39-year-old underfloor heating renovated by the Naef GROUP – and we were not disappointed. All employees of the Naef GROUP were very professional, competent and friendly, from the preliminary assessment to the follow-up work stage. The job was completed very neatly and precisely, and finished exactly on schedule.

The most frequently asked questions about drinking water pipe renovation
There is no official SVGW certification procedure for internal pipe renovations. Accordingly, there is no SVGW certificate for this process.
Rather, the critical factor is that the technology fulfils the overriding legal requirements in Switzerland and the relevant specifications for use in the drinking water sector. Only the Naef GROUP offers this transparency and professional categorisation with ANROSAN.
No. ANROSAN is the first and only cement-based inorganic internal pipe renovation process. All other suppliers use coating materials containing epoxy resin or bisphenol. The Naef GROUP works closely with the relevant authorities and institutes for all drinking water hygiene analyses.
All relevant substances were analysed – from the production of the raw materials to the migration of individual substances into drinking water. They have been approved for use in contact with drinking water.
In particular, the Naef GROUP can confirm compliance with the following requirements to clients:
• Federal Office of Public Health FOPH, Bulletin 165, July 2012 – but cement-based
• Foodstuffs Act (FoodA)
• Ordinance on Foodstuffs and Utility Articles (FUAO)
• FDHA Ordinance on Drinking Water and Water in Public Baths and Shower Facilities (DWBSO)
This clarity is particularly important in the sensitive area of drinking water. This is precisely why clients rely on the Naef GROUP with ANROSAN.
Yes. During the renovation work, there will be water interruptions, but only in the flats that are connected to the relevant riser zone. The renovation is carried out section by section, which means that only the flats in the respective riser zone are affected.
The exact time frames are communicated in a detailed plan after the project planning stage. The Naef GROUP endeavours to keep the water interruption as short as possible. A temporary shower facility can be provided on request. In addition, a temporary cold water supply will be provided on each floor so that water can be drawn for flushing toilets, cooking and other basic needs.
During the renovation work, our teams need access to the flat during working hours. As the pipes are renovated in sections, access must be guaranteed in all flats that are connected to the respective riser zone.
The front door remains ajar during working hours. After work, everything is dismantled so that the door can be closed again and there are no more hoses in the flat.
Through careful project planning, clearly structured, stringent execution, and transparent communication of time frames. Only the flats actually connected to the respective riser zone are affected.
In addition, there are practical temporary solutions: temporary cold water facilities are set up on each floor, and temporary showers are available on request. The value of professionally managed renovation by the Naef GROUP is particularly evident in occupied properties.
A riser zone is the area in the building in which the vertical water pipes run. They start in the basement or in the utility room and run vertically from there upwards through the flats.
These pipes supply water to the flats above each other.
A tap is a point at which water can be drawn from the pipe. Typical examples are shower and bath taps, washbasins, kitchens or connections in the cistern and on the washing machine.
Each of these tapping points is considered a separate tap.
The number of taps depends on the existing water connections in your home. Typically, this includes kitchen taps, washbasins, showers, bathtubs and connections for appliances such as washing machines.
Important: a fixture for a washbasin, bathtub or kitchen usually has two taps – hot and cold water. A toilet usually only has one tap for cold water.
A material trailer must also be placed close to the building. However, the technician’s vehicle does not necessarily have to be parked directly in front of the building.
Before the project begins, it is particularly important to clarify access to the affected flats, a suitable location for the compressor and material trailer, as well as the necessary power supply via a CEE32 socket.
Equally important are proper project planning and clear information regarding water interruptions, riser zones and any temporary solutions. This structured preparation is a core component of a professional renovation with the Naef GROUP.
